I can’t believe it is over 2 weeks since my last post and with so much to say not sure where to begin. So thought I would start with Saturday’s wedding which,at last brought a sunny day for my bride. We had a bit of a shaky start when arriving at the church to find it well and truly locked despite being assured it was ‘always’ open! to make matters worse there was no-one at the vicarage and the churchwardens weren’t answereing their ‘phones. However, after an anxious half hour the vicar and the organist arrived together.

Natalie had 3 bridesmaids in a beautiful lilac and a little flower girl in ivory with a purple sash, She chose a traditional hand-tied bouquet of white roses, the lovely Ocean Song rose, and lisianthus with pearls and diamante. The 3 bridesmaids had similar bouquets but without the Ocean Song and the little flower girl had more of the ‘Cadbury’ purple lizzies.

At Packington Moor there were 6 round tables, an oval table and a long top table. Natalie sourced the lovely white lanterns herself and we placed them on a ring of flowers

The garland on the top table was brought together with soft ruscus and we placed MR & MRS letters alongside with scattered petals.

Decorated hearts gave the final touches

On Sunday morning I was absolutely delighted to find that Natalie had posted a photo on Face Book and sent me the following:

Joy – We can’t thank you enough for the beautiful flowers on Saturday! Everything from the bouquets to the buttonholes was perfect but the barn absolutely took our breath away. You made our day even more special than we could have ever imagined.

Well, it didn’t rain yesterday but I hope Jacky had her thermals on! Here are one or two photos of her bouquet. I used the brown ribbon to tie in with the wrap that she was wearing. The white roses are Avalanch with fresias and orange tulips

I have included this close-up as it shows the lovely alstromerias which I don’t use very often as they can be disappointing. However, I thought the brown splashes on the petals were just right this time. al

For her buttonholes Jacky choose to use two flowers as in her bouquet the white Avalanch and fresias with foliage. The foliage and the orange tulips both had brown running through them – which was a lucky find.

One little tip if you are planning to do your own bouquets – always allow more ribbon as you always use more than you think!

In haste as I am just off to Middleton Hall to look at, and take some photos of, the garlands in the main hall as Becky would like me to add fresh flowers. Her colours are hot pink, cool pink and ivory and I think to make as much impact as possible without spending the earth I will include the vibrant pink oriental lily Star Gazer, which is also being used in the table arrangements, the lovely large pink rose Sweet Avalanch and lots of frothy pink gypsofila. Add some gorgeous pink and silver ribbons and a transformation should take place. Will post some ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures in June.

This weekend I only have a very small wedding of a bouquet and buttonholes. This wedding is very unusual for me in that I have never met or spoken to the bride and only spoken to her mum on the ‘phone. However, her colours are ivory and organge with a splash of brown and I have some beautiful white Avalanch roses, very ‘green’ white lisianthus, fresias, alstromerias and tangerine tulips. All tied with a lovely chocolate floppy ribbon… Because the weather is so cold my fresias and alstromerias are becoming quite giddy by being moved from one hot spot to the next! but they are coming out really well now and should be just right by tomorrow.

I had an early start ordering flowers for next weeks weddings, all made slightly more complicated by the fact that Monday is the May Day bank holiday in Europe – so no Dutch market or deliveries.

Its the most beautiful sunny morning and having taken these photos thought you would like to see how even the hunblest jam jar can be given the star treatment. It could be used on its own or try grouping three different sizes together. Yesterdy it was just a jar of pickled beetroot! I came across the beautiful lace quite unexpectedly and couldn’t resist – it will also look beautiful used to tie (possibly with little pearls) a bouquet. Somehow I think lace and pearls are made to go together. For a real ‘country wedding’ feel I might mix larkspur, daisies and panicum grasses together, maybe add some rosemary for remembrance and scent - have also discovered a lovely Thlaspi Green Bell. For a ‘grander’ look right now try peonies pale pink Sarah Bernhardt

Just back from a very motivated networking meeting at Netherstowe House (lovely venue for small weddings and celebrations) in Lichfield. Just time to post my second bouquet from Swinfen Hall which is the beautiful orchid Hot Lips and the lovely antique pink/purple rose Cool Water – very romatic names for a wedding I think. I was really pleased with this bouquet as the orchids have a lovely movement and almost dance along and the folded lily grass seemed to compliment them. You can’t really see from this photo but the bent flexi-grass at the top is wound with silver wire and pearls to give extra detail.
